The Neighborhood and the Lonia River

Lonia is a neighborhood in Ourense named after the river that runs through it. The Lonia is the most important tributary of the Miño River in Ourense. It originates in the municipality of Nogueira de Ramuín, passes through Pereiro de Aguiar, and flows into the Miño in the municipality of Ourense.

You can walk alongside it in several parts of the river's course, although possibly the most famous route is the one called "The mills of the Lonia River," where you can enjoy a testimony of this type of traditional Galician engineering.

Additionally, the Lonia River forms two famous reservoirs, Cachamuíña and Castadón. Near the latter, you will find the Natural Archaeological Complex of Santomé: a castro inhabited between the 1st century BC and the 5th century AD, showcasing the fusion of castrexa and Roman culture.
